2021 ID.4 Electric SUV Range, Trims, & Specs

Feast your eyes on the incredible VW ID.4. This beautifully-crafted and innovative electric SUV is almost ready to take on the roads of Miami, Boca Raton, and beyond. This Volkswagen electric SUV has a super-low center of gravity, giving it a composed, fun ride. Speaking of gravity, this vehicle looks like NASA created it. It’s got clean lines, aerodynamic styling, and a striking silhouette.

Build and reserve now

Electric now looks as good as it feels. When some people think of electric vehicles, they may worry they’ll get less power due to its efficiency. Not in the VW ID.4. Volkswagen created this car to be an ideal first-time electric vehicle for drivers. If this is your first transition from a gas vehicle to an electric, this car will give you the ride, acceleration, and handling similar to any gas-powered SUV. It’s made to be efficient. But, it’s also made to be fun.

Instead of the typical S, SE, SEL format that Volkswagen generally follows, this newcomer will be offered in Base, Pro, and 1st Edition trims. The base-level won’t be released until 2022, but it’s planned to be priced at an affordable starting point of around $35,000. Now, that is efficiency at a value. For now, you’ll be able to reserve the ID.4 Pro or 1st Edition models (we will get to how to reserve later in the article). Those have a starting MSRP of $39,995,1 but you can get them starting at $32,4952 MSRP after receiving your $7,500 potential federal tax credit. Read on to learn more about this incredible vehicle and find out how to get yours with Gunther Volkswagen.

What Can You Expect With the ID.4 Available Trims?

As mentioned, the launch trims for the VW ID.4 are the Pro and 1st Edition. The 1st Edition trim is currently sold out online, but more will become available as the vehicle launches in the spring of 2021.

Get ready for a car that can do it all. Each VW ID.4 comes with two intuitive displays. The first is a 5.3" digital cluster, and the second is a 10" infotainment screen. A 12" infotainment center is also available. The VW ID.4 will also offer an augmented reality head-up display that will apparently use the entire windshield. Hello future.

The Volkswagen electric SUV has a long list of standard equipment, a highly-futuristic safety suite, and an extremely spacious and luxurious cabin. These three details are things you can't even get in a gas-powered SUV at that price point. Plus, with a more powerful driving experience than most EVs, it's no surprise everyone is dying to get their hands on this car.

Currently, both of the available VW ID.4 models will have a rear-wheel-drive electric motor. You can get an electric motor with 146, 168, 173, or 201 horsepower when you reserve your VW ID.4. Volkswagen plans to reveal an all-wheel-drive option that increases horsepower to a whopping 302 broncos. The all-wheel-drive option will add a second electric motor at the front wheels to give you even faster acceleration and handling, brilliantly distributing the power where you need it most. So if you have a need for speed, you can do so while staying clean and green. From the moment that you press the pedal, you'll feel the instantaneous torque from your quiet and smooth motor. That's just another way the ID.4 breaks the mold of what an electric vehicle can do.

The VW ID.4 Pro can be paired with two option packages. The first is the Statement pack. Valued at $4,500, it adds exciting equipment like the 12" touchscreen, glass sunroof, and hands-free liftgate. The second is the $1,500 Gradient pack. The Gradient pack will upgrade the look and luxury of the vehicle. But, you don't need either of these packages to be excited about this car. The ID.4 Pro comes standard with a heated steering wheel, wireless charging pad, heated front seats, a 30-color ambient lighting system, and the entire safety suite under the ID.Drive trademark. The ID.4 1st Edition comes standard with both of those packages.

What Can You Expect From the ID.4 Range and Charging

According to Volkswagen, the ID.4’s expected range is 250 miles,3 and the estimated charging time at a public DC fast charger is 60 miles in ten minutes.4 Plus, Volkswagen offers three years of free charging at Electrify America DC Fast Chargers to all VW ID.4 owners. Those can be found along most major highways in Florida. The ever-growing network of charge points is currently over 17,000 across the nation. You can expect to get up to 80% charged in just 38 minutes at one of those chargers, which is an awe-inspiring charging rate.

Wanting to charge from the comfort of your home? No problem. Your VW ID.4 comes with an L1 charging cable. But, if you want even faster charge times, we recommend getting the L2 Wallbox charger, sold separately. This helps your VW ID.4 charge even faster.

As with any other electric vehicle, we want you to be aware that the range depends entirely on how you use it. Tow-load, accessory charging, drive style, weather conditions, and regenerative braking level will make your range vary. But, no matter what. You can consider any road trip a go, and say goodbye to frustrating stops at gross, sketchy gas stations.

When Is the US Release Date?

We know, we know. You’re dying to know when you can get your hands on one already. And more details are expected to come out about this futuristic vehicle as we inch closer to the release date. You’ll learn about reserving yours at the bottom of this article.

The first batch of VW ID.4 vehicles will be produced in Zwickau, Germany, but U.S. production is expected to begin as early as 2022 in Chattanooga, TN. An upcoming VW ID.3 is also being produced in Germany. Volkswagen has a steadfast goal of selling 1.5 million ID.4 SUVs by 2025.
